Why are school districts billing Medicaid?
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) allows certain services provided under an Individualized Education Program (IEP) to be covered by Medicaid. Medicaid funds help pay for the costs of providing these services.School districts can only bill for health-related services that are outlined in the student’s IEP. In general, services for which school districts may bill Medicaid are: audiologist services, evalua-tion and testing, nursing services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, psy-chological services and social work services.

UNH Launches “Charge into the Future” Program Featuring Half-Tuition Scholarships for West Haven High School Graduates

The University of New Haven has announced a partnership with West Haven Public Schools that will provide half-tuition scholarships to high school seniors as well as college preparation programs for middle school and high school students.
The partnership, called the “Charge into the Future” program, will provide a half-tuition scholarship for any student graduating from West Haven High School who is admitted as a full-time student to UNH beginning next fall.

West Haven's Citywide Spelling Bee Championship

Christopher Bradley, a sixth grade student at May V. Carrigan Intermediate School, won the West Haven Citywide Spelling Bee Championship on February 7, 2013. The four contestants had previously won their grade level competitions held at their schools. The other participants were Brendan Carew, Grade 5, from May V. Carrigan Intermediate School; James McCarthy, Grade 7, from Harry M. Bailey Middle School; and Paige Sheridan, Grade 8, from Harry M. Bailey Middle School. Each contestant received a Barnes and Noble gift certificate from the West Haven PTA Council.
Christopher Bradley will represent West Haven at the New Haven Register Spelling Bee on March 26. The winner of that competition will compete in the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee.

Board of Education Adopts Budget for 2013-2014
At a meeting on January 22, 2013, the Board of Education voted to set a proposed budget of $85, 894, 755 for the 2013-2014 school year. This proposed budget goes next to Mayor Picard and the City's Board of Finance. Click here to see the proposed budget.The Board has also submitted a Capital Budget Proposal. .
